1. The story
of Sabbath breakers is mentioned 3 places in the Quran; {surah A’raf 163-166}, surah Nisa and surah Bakara.
2. Allah
starts off by asking the prophets {SAW} about the nation that was by the sea; a
town situated by the sea and located between a place called Median and At-tur.
3. The
nation also known to be the nation of Alyah;
meaning those who were attentive to the torah.
These
maybe Jews/Bani-Israel
4. This
nation was divided in to 2 groups. One group was obedient and the other was
disobedient.
5. These
people were very stubborn, so Allah tested them by giving them countless
blessings.
6. The
righteous people of the nation obeyed and were thankful for the blessings of
Allah. The disobedient people took became very arrogant and took advantage of
Allah’s blessings.
7. Allah forgave
them and tested these people again. Allah gave them a day of worship which is
also known as Saturday. On this day they were prohibited to have any kind of
worldly affairs.
The
fish would appear in the sea only on Saturday and would not show themselves
throughout the week.
8. For the
second time, the rebellious people decided to go against Allah’s will. They
thought it was ok to play trickery and set out a trap in the sea so that all
the fish could get caught on the Sabbath day.
9. A
righteous group amongst them asked their leaders {great scholars or also
considered as very pious people of the nation}, “why are you preaching whom
Allah is about to destroy and give them sever torment?” The leaders replied,
“in order for you to repent for your wrong doings and perhaps you could fear
Allah.”
10. Allah was extremely mad at this nation for
disobeying and cursed the youth to become into monkeys and the elderly to become
into apes.
It is
also believed that there were 2 groups amongst the righteous; one who was
concerned about his own and others deeds and the second group that was very
selfish and did not bother stopping people to go astray.
Scholars
believed that the second group of righteous people was also punished with the
wrong doers. Some scholars say that these people lived up to 3 more days
without drinking, eating nor producing offspring.
