Julia was in 10th grade and had been at her school since grade 6. Her two best friends were Wendy and Erin. Erin was the most popular girl in the class and all the girls saw her as the leader. One morning Julia arrived at school and Erin was acting weird. When Julia said hi to her, she didn’t respond. She just looked away and smiled at a group of girls in the corner of the classroom.
It didn’t take long for Julia to figure out that Erin had turned most of the girls against her. But, she didn’t know why! She went to Wendy and asked her why Erin was mad at her. Wendy acted nervous and said that all she knew was that Erin told her that if she hung out with Julia, none of the rest of the girls would talk to her anymore.
The rest of that day lasted forever. Whenever the teacher was looking everyone was nice to Julia. But, when her back was to the class, Erin or another girl would throw pieces of paper toward Julia or whisper to each other and look in her direction. Julia thought Wendy would help her but Wendy just pretended nothing was happening.
That night Julia talked to her parents and they told her to wait and see if tomorrow was better. If not, they said, perhaps they could help Julia talk to Erin and work through the problem. Julia felt like that would make her look stupid if everyone found out that her mom and dad had to get involved. She knew that sometimes the class would pick on someone, but she never thought her friends would turn against her and do the same thing to her. She felt like she didn’t have any friends and nobody liked her.
The next day was even worse. No one wanted to hang out with her at recess and she had to sit by herself at lunch. At the end of lunch she went into the girls’ bathroom. While she was there, a girl from her class came in and said that Erin had sent her in and that Julia had to take off her shoes and send them back to Erin or no one would talk to her tomorrow. Julia just wanted to go home. She didn’t want to cry but she was confused and hurt and scared. She gave the girl her shoes.
Now she was late for class and was in the bathroom with no shoes. She headed to class and walked in quietly with her head down. Before she could get to her chair, the teacher asked her why she was late and where her shoes were.
Here was her dilemma. What should she do now? Everyone was watching her. If she told the teacher about Erin and the girls ganging up on her she would look like a snitch, and who knows what the kids would do to her after that. But, if she didn’t say anything or lied to the teacher, she would get into trouble.
I would recommend that Julia should not keep silent at this moment. I would like her to tell the teacher that she would like to speak to her outside or in private. She should tell her teacher right there and then that some girls in her class are taking control over Erin's mind. She should explain to her teacher that these girls are bullying her and making Erin be mean to her as well, all because of popularity. She should state the fact that all she wants is for her friend to be her friend again, not her enemy. If the group of girls don't learn their lesson, they should be expelled for good because bullying is something serious and very painful, and no one should be experiencing that.
ReplyDeletei think julia should tell the teacher everything maybe in private when nobodys around or something because is she stops herslef from telling or lieing to the teacher, this problem would get more worse and will be out of control. she should tell the truth for her own safety and to give the other kids a lesson or a moral that bullying is not funny and its not cool either.
ReplyDeleteJulia should definitely approach the teacher at this moment and tell him/ her the situation she is facing.I personally believe that addressing a bully to a teacher is in no way or form snitching because she is not being treated with respect,or fairness and it is her situation. Its not like she was sticking her nose into other peoples business. It would not only be best for Julia to confront the bullies, but for the bullies themselves because they would learn their lesson and the moral of the situation, which is that bullying is not the correct or human thing to do, and that it hurts others feelings.I beleive that by doing this Julia will not be bullied, and that the bullies will not do such a thing again.
ReplyDeleteI think Julia should let her teacher and parents know and stand up against it, confidently. If she doesn`t and keeps lying to herself and the others, it will just affect her and the situation would get poorer and out of sight; just giving reasons to the bullies to keep doing what they are doing.
ReplyDeleteJulia should most certainly tell the teacher the truth about what happened but she should do it privately, not in front of the entire class. If she were to do it in front of the entire class, it would make this problem a lot worse. After explaining the situation to the teacher, the teacher will most probably talk to the students themself and if they still behave this way, they should be suspended for behaving like that.
ReplyDeletei would recommend Julia to stay quite at the moment and make some sort of excuse and after the class she should go and talk to the teacher privately. After talking to the teacher she should maybe meet her ex friend erin and ask her what she did and why is everyone behaving this way was there anything she did that she was not happy with. if Erin starts being rude i would suggest the teacher to tell her to take action as its a way of bullying and that Julia is very hurt or maybe talk to the guidance councilor who may take the same action and figure out what the problem as its happening at school it shouldnt really involve outsiders in it
ReplyDeleteJulia should take his moment as an opportunity to stand up for herself. It may be to do it in front of everyone or in private. As long as she speaks up about what is going on with her. Julia must tell her teacher and parents the way certain people are treating her. If Julia does nothing about this, she might never stop the bullies in her school.

ReplyDeleteI would recommend that Julia shouldn't ignore it, she should stand up and speak. she can tell someone like an adult, a teacher or her parents. if she would talk to a teacher about how shes getting bullied and everyone's against her then the teacher can talk to the students who are ignoring her and bullying her and they would get in trouble. she can talk to her parents about it and her parents can talk to a teacher or the students parents and that will actually stop them from bullying her or anyone else.

ReplyDeleteIn that moment, I think that Julia should tell the teacher everything that happened and stand up for herself. However, if she feels uncomfortable doing so, she should tell the teacher that she was in the bathroom and that is why she was late. Then, later, she should go to the teacher privately and tell her the whole story, how the girls are ganging up on her and took her shoes.
ReplyDeleteI would recommend julia to tell the teacher that she would talk to her later as it was an emergency case. After the class she should privately tell the teacher the situation starting from the day before, how the girls started acting weird and she doesn’t even know the reason behind it. Bring in her parents to solve the issue with the help of the teacher. It is always better to end the problem quickly even if it's bitter than to face many miserable days of being bullied. Since what the girls did was an act of bully they should be seriously punished. the girl who was in charge of causing this problem should be suspended from school for few days and those who continued alone with her should be suspended for a day. They should end this problem by writing an apology letter to her and to the teacher.
