People of the Ditch Notes

By Radiah

-There once was a boy, who was a magician’s apprentice. Every day, on his way to learn magic, the boy would pass by a muslim monk.
-It became a habit for the boy to stop and listen to the monks teachings, and leave to the magician late.
-One day, a huge beast was blocking the path of the people. The boy thought to himself: “Today I will find out who is more superior, the monk, or the magician. So he picked up a stone and said: “Oh Allah, If the affair of the monk is more dearer to thee than the affair of the monk, cause death to this animal. When the boy threw the stone, the animal died.
-After that the boy began to treat people who had different illnesses including those who were blind or had leprosy.
- A blind friend of the king heard of the boy and asked him to cure his blindness. The boy told the man that only Allah can cure you and if you affirm faith in Allah, I will make dua to Allah to cure you. So the blind man affirmed his faith in Allah and Allah cured him.
-The next day the king asked his friend “Who restored your eyesight?” the man replied “my lord”. At hearing this, the king became furious because his friend did not think of him as god. So the king tormented him until he gave word of the boy.
- The boy was brought to court and asked how he cured the mans blindnedd using magic. The boy said that it was Allah who cures, not magic. So the king tormented the boy until he gave word of the monk.
-the monk was brought to court and asked to turn away from  from islam but the monk refused. So, the king asked for a saw to be put on the middle of the monks head and torn until a piece fell off. He did the same to his friend.
-He then ordered for the boy to be taken to a mountain and thrown down, but when the boy was about to be thrown, the mountain began to shake causing everyone else to fall. The boy went back to tho king who ordered for the boy to be taken to the middle of the ocean and drowned, but when he was about to be thrown, the boat flipped and everyone else drowned instead.
-The boy went back to the king again and tolf him that the only way to kill the boy would be to gather all the towns people, hang the boy on a tree and shoot him with an arrow while saying “in the name of Allah, lord of the worlds”. The king did so, and when the boy died, all of the people who were gathered around the tree saw this miracle and immediately accepted islam.
- After that the king built a ditch, set it to fire, and those who were muslims were thrown into the ditch

Barsisa

1.    At the time of Bani Isreal there was a monk named Barsisa who was known to be one of the most noble, and pious people of the time.
2.    There were three brothers who had gone to Jihad and wanted to leave their younger sister in a safe environment during their absence. They had asked the people, and everyone nominated Barsisa to watch over the girl. As it was a girl, Barsisa had refused immediately due to his fright of committing sins.
3.    However, through the whisperings of shaitan he had been convinced.
4.    After a period of time shaitan came back with more to say, and convinced him to enter the house, speak to the girl and soon commit acts of guilt.
5.    Soon Barsisa had found out that the girl was pregnant and feared what the brothers would say.
6.    As soon as the baby was born, shaitan informed Barsisa to kill the baby and its mother. He killed and buried them.
7.    Soon after, the brothers returned asking for their sister. Barsisa had lied saying she died from an illness. The brothers made dua for her and accepted Allah decree. That night, shaitan came in their dreams and exposed how Barsisa had committed bad deeds and killed their sister.
8.    The next day the brothers went to the grave and saw their dead sister and child. Upon seeing the truth they had up fronted Barsisa and he was given the death penalty by his people.
9.    Shaitan had come again, and revealed himself stating that all he did, and said to Barsisa that if you bow down to me I will remove all this commotion and you will be saved. Barsisa who previously had been the most pious man had bowed down to shaitan and he died. On te day of judgement he will be resurrected bowing down to shaitan.

10.Shaitan had stated, “I am free of you, I fear Allah, the Lord of the ‘Alamin [mankind, jinn, and all that exsists]!” – Surah Al-Hashr 16-17
